Learning Experience Design for Helpers

Approach

As a designer, I work with founders, therapists, educators, coaches, and organizations to develop curricula, design experiences, and encourage learning through human connection. To do this, I draw on clinical experience as a master's level counselor educator, developing psychoeducational experiences and facilitating therapeutic workshops for hundreds of clients.

I’m passionate about improving lives through design and education, approaching problems with creativity and empathy to arrive at innovative solutions from a human-centered perspective. My deep understanding of human behavior allows me to design systems to meet needs and empower individuals to reach their fullest potential. I believe experiential learning provides an accessible and effective way to learn positive skills in mental health.

What is Learning Experience Design?

Learning experience design (LX design) is a process of creating experiences that enables learners to achieve learning outcomes in a human-centered and goal-oriented way. It’s an iterative process, designed to be repeated for continual innovation, and bears resemblance to the ADDIE model of instructional design and the Design Thinking model. LX Designers start with an understanding of the learner, work from goals that are tailored to the learner, design appropriate activities and experiences, and build and measure educational products and results.

The process has 6 steps:

This method, based in research and continued observation, creates a higher quality, more engaging product.

How might working with a learning experience designer help me grow my practice?

  • Create sales and marketing funnels using online courses, ebooks, toolkits, and webinars

  • Translate years of specialty knowledge and training into passive income streams

  • Produce online content to improve SEO and increase traffic to your website

  • Provide services to a greater number of individuals than you are able to in person

  • Produce training materials to grow your team and provide consistent experiences for participants

  • Increase value for existing clients by providing them hands-on learning and homework

Experience

As a facilitator in mental healthcare, I have designed and facilitated experiential therapeutic groups for hundreds of clients, with topics including communication, emotional regulation, substance use recovery, and mindfulness. I have worked for adults with co-occurring disorders in residential programs as well as children and adolescents in the school system.

I also have 3 years’ experience designing wellness and professional education programs. My most recent work was with Divergent U using design thinking to develop experiential educational products, workbooks, and professional trainings for an entrepreneurship incubator program. I have also served as a consultant for Elar Institute’s Connective Communication program and worked with the University of Central Florida as a research assistant for instructional design and psychoeducational programs.
